1. Why Personal information may be collected and how it is used.
Personal information means information that I hold about you from which your identity is either apparent or can be reasonably determined. This may include any of the following,
- Name
- Address
- Telephone number
- Email Address
- Driver Number
I will collect the personal information when,
- You contact me by phone, email or in person in order to book driving lessons
- I process your EDT (Essential Driver Training) Logbook Record to comply with mandatory requirements of the RSA (Road Safety Authority) for the EDT Course.
- RSA/ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) EDT Record
I will never disclose any personal information without your knowledge and consent to any other persons or Companies, at home or overseas. When I temporarily provide personal information to the Road Safety Authority, I require the Road Safety Authority to protect your personal information as diligently as I do.
2. How your personal data and is stored.
- When you contact me to make an appointment for driving lessons your initial contact details can be either temporarily written into my daily schedule worksheet or stored in my mobile phone. This information is disposed of when no longer needed, normally within three months of when you have finalised your course. For example, paper is shredded, and phone contact details are deleted.
- Atlas Driving School does not store any computer data relating to your personal details except for accounting purposes in which your name only is recorded beside any payment you have made to Atlas Driving School regarding your driving lessons.
- During your EDT Course you will be provided with an EDT Logbook in which you will provide your Name, Address, Contact Number and Driver Number. The Logbook will be kept in your possession and brought to each driving lesson by you in order to be processed and updated by me. Should it be left in my possession, it will be kept in a locked filing cabinet in my office until it is returned to you at your next driving lesson. My premises are protected by an alarm when not occupied.
3. Data Security.
- Atlas Driving School uses a laptop with a well configured firewall and internet gateway to protect data. Cyber criminals or malware can attack online systems and go unnoticed for a long time. Many people only find out they have been attacked when it is too late even though the warning signs were there. I check my security software messages and access control logs and other reporting systems I have in place on a regular basis. I also act on any alerts that are issued by these monitoring services. I make sure to check what software or services are running on my network and make sure that I can identify if there is something there which should not be. I run regular vulnerability scans and penetration tests to scan my system for known vulnerabilities to make sure I address any vulnerabilities if ever identified
- There are a wide range of online services, many incorporated within today’s smartphones and tablets that require users to transfer data to remote computing facilities – commonly known as the cloud. Processing data in the cloud represents a risk because the personal data for which I am responsible will leave my network and be processed in those systems managed by the cloud provider. I therefore need to assess the security measures that the cloud provider has in place to ensure that they are appropriate. I will make sure to know what data is being stored in the cloud as modern computing devices, especially those targeted at consumers, can have cloud backup or sync services switched on by default.
4. Your rights and choices.

- where disclosure of your personal information is authorized or required by law, e.g. disclosure to various government departments and agencies such as the RSA.
- In the public interest or say, where a crime, fraud or misdemeanour is committed or suspected, and disclosure against the customer’s rights to confidentiality is justified.
- With your consent which may be implied or expressed, verbally or written
